Bared Teeth

Bared Teeth by Margaret Vanderwoude

Her teeth are bared at the townsfolk

Her teeth are bared, while she rips into her food

Her teeth are bared when she runs through the forest

Her teeth are bared, and she makes the dogs run and cower

Her teeth are bared and the villagers flee

Her teeth are bared, and they are vicious and sharp

Teeth that are so unlike yours and mine

But there are no bared teeth as she hides in the forest,

Asking the lonely moon; “why does everyone run when I smile?
