Jessie’s Girl Sonnet

Jessie’s Girl Sonnet by Katherine Jones

In shadows cast by neon lights, I pine

A friend, Jessie, was once a friend of mine

But lately, changes in the air define

His girl, I crave, a love I can’t resign

I see them dance, a scene that fuels my fire

Her eyes on him, a love I desire

Through crowded rooms, my heart a silent lyre

A longing plea, my secret love entire

O Jessie’s girl, a muse of my fate

In every verse, our love I create

Yet, as I write, my heart does palpitate

Your name, a lyric, love I can’t abate

And so, I pen my ode, a bittersweet twist

For Jessie’s girl, a love I can’t resist
