For it’s our grief that gives us our gratitude

“For it’s our grief that gives us our gratitude” by Isabella Goodman
Even in these trying times
We still endure the dreadful climb
Up a mountain, up so high
And as we climb we call out for some sort of reply
Isolated on your mountain, all alone, no one to confide in
As millions die, we wait for a sign
That this is all worth it. That life is really worth it.
With millions dead, no end in sight
We begin to get tired of this dreadful hike
Uphill we journey, only to be hit
By avalanches of pain
But in our grief, we may find
A piece of gratitude left behind
Somewhere in us, it is there
A tiny piece of gratitude there to share.
Even if your world seems to fall apart
Use that gratitude to help you get through.
And with that gratitude, you will be strong
And able to climb that mountain you’ve hiked for so long.
