No More Insecurities
No More Insecurities Today by Emerson Delfin
Today I will
write a poem
about a 17-year-old girl going to the gym.
It will not be a metaphor for anorexia.
It will not be an allegory
for pushing the pedophiles away.
But rather about the
back & forth of her ponytail
as she dances in between sets lifting weights
heavier than most of the arrogant ¨gym bros.¨
But rather about her newfound confidence
flexing for herself, not the
imbeciles who want weak women
for their own sad self-conscious strength
to reassure their douchebag selves.
But rather about the way,
she works out in pink and purple
sports bras to show off her killer abs.
But rather the way she counts
her reps as she squats, curls, and kills.
How the slam of the bar to
the rack sounds
like all the women in the room are
giving her a round of applause.
