Goodbye, Berlin

Goodbye, Berlin by Madison Bicking

The piercing whistles of the dogs stopped right then and there

The neighborhood fell quiet

And no one could stand the silence

As they stood still, like statues, and stared

No one could move, no one could speak

They were all stunned

From the war that had just begun

And they couldn’t even fathom that this combat had nowhere near reached its peak

The brave, old man screamed again

He shouts and cries and cries and shouts

Desperate to know what the fuss was about

Fire! Fire! Boom! The dogs started again

The old man now silent, everyone relieved it wasn’t them
